Refresh data source schema fields in Google Data Studio

Note: Google Data Studio is now known as Looker Studio.

While editing a data source schema, you get the option to refresh data source schema fields:

refresh fields

If you make any changes to the underlying data source then click on the ‘Refresh fields’ button.

For example, let us suppose that your data source schema is connected to the following Google Sheets data source:

sample table

Now let’s suppose you decided to remove the ‘Customer Email‘ and ‘Product Purchased‘ field from your data source.

After removing these fields, your data source may look like the one below:

table after removing fields

Now at this point, you can either wait for your data source schema to automatically update based on its current data freshness setting or you can manually update your data source schema by clicking on the ‘Refresh fields’ button at the bottom left of your screen:

Refresh fields

When you click on the ‘REFRESH FIELDS’ button, you are going to see a dialog box like the one below (provided the underlying data source has changed):

apply changes

Simply click on the ‘Apply’ button to update your data source schema.
