How to Edit a Calculated Field in Google Data Studio

Note: Google Data Studio is now known as Looker Studio.

In order to edit a data source specific calculated field, follow the steps below:

Step-1: Navigate to the Data Source Editor.

Step-2: Click on the ‘fx’ symbol next to the calculated field you want to edit:

Once you clicked on the ‘fx’ symbol, it will open up the formula editor:

Step-3: Rename the calculated field and/or change its formula.

Step-4: Click on the ‘Update’ button at the bottom right-hand side.

In order to edit a chart specific calculated field, follow the steps below:

Step-1: Navigate to the Report Editor.

Step-2: Select the chart whose calculated field you want to edit. For example, let’s say we want to edit the ‘Conversion Rate’ calculated field of the following table. So we would select that table:

Step-3: Find the chart specific calculated field you want to edit in the chart properties panel. Here is how the chart properties panel looks like:

Chart specific calculated fields appear in the chart properties panel with an fx symbol on the left. 

However, this symbol appears only when you hover your mouse over it:

Step-4: To edit the chart specific calculated field, click on the ‘fx’ symbol. This will bring up the formula editor where you can edit your field as needed:

Step-5: Click on the ‘Apply’ button.
