How to access BigQuery Public Data Sets

BigQuery provides a lot of public data sets which you can use for practice purposes.

A public data set is the one that is stored in BigQuery and made available to the general public through the Google Cloud Public Dataset Program

You can analyze these data sets by using either standard SQL or legacy SQL queries.

Since Google stores the public data sets on their servers, you do not need to pay any storage cost. However, you could still be charged if you query more than 1 TB of data in a month.

If you want to learn more about how BigQuery billing works then check out this article: Cost of using BigQuery for Google Analytics

If you do not have access to the BigData but you still want to analyze it then BigQuery Public Data Set is a great option.

Note(1): You can also analyze public datasets without enabling billing in your Google cloud platform.

Note(2): You can share any of your datasets with the general public. For more details check out the official help documentation: Controlling access to datasets
