How to send data from Google Ads to BigQuery

Follow the steps below to send data from Google Ads to BigQuery:

Step-1: Navigate to your BigQuery account: https://console.cloud.google.com/bigquery

Step-2: At the top of your screen click on the drop-down menu:

Step-3: Click on the ‘New Project’ button:

We are going to use this new project for collecting and querying Google Ads data in BigQuery.

Step-4: Name your new project.

Step-5: Edit the project ID so that it becomes easier to identify this project (optional):

Step-6: Click on the ‘Create’ button:

Step-7: Click on the ‘Select project’ link on the top right-hand side of your screen:

You are now in the ‘Google Ads’ project.

You will know that you are in the right project because the project name will appear at the top of your screen:

Step-8: Click on the Google Ads project ID:

Step-9: Click on ‘Create dataset’ button:

Step-10: Name your data set (e.g. ‘Google_Ads_Dataset’) and then click on the ‘Create Dataset’ button:

You will now need to use a third-party solution (connector) for sending Google Ads data to BigQuery. 

You can either search for a third-party solution online or use the one that I use which is Supermetrics for BigQuery. They provide a free 14 days trial of their solution. No credit card required.

Step-11: Navigate to ‘Supermetrics for BigQuery‘ page.

Step-12: Click on the ‘Start a free trial’ button:

Step-13: Fill out the form and then click on the ‘Send’ button:

You should now be redirected to the page like the one below in your Google Cloud platform account:

Step-14: Click on the ‘Select a project’ drop-down menu:

Step-15: Click on ‘Google Ads’ project:

Step-16: Type ‘supermetrics google ads’ in the search box:

Step-17: Press the ‘Enter’ key and then click on ‘Google Ads by Supermetrics’ connector:

Step-18: Click on the ‘Enroll’ button:

You should now see the ‘Data Source enrolled‘ status:

Step-19: Click on the ‘Configure transfer’ button:

You should now see a screen like the one below which is about creating Google Ads data transfer:

Step-20: Keep the data source (‘Google Ads by Supermetrics’) intact and move on to the next step:

Step-21: Type a meaningful name for the ‘Transfer config name’ field:

Step-22: Change the scheduling options (which specify when the transfer will run) to ‘Start at set time’:

Step-23: Keep the ‘Repeats’ setting to ‘Daily’ to have new data added once a day and move on to the next step:

Step-24: Edit the ‘Start date and run time’ setting to your preferred choice:

Step-25: Select the data set you created earlier for Google Ads from the drop-down menu:

We are going to use this data set for storing Google Ads data in BigQuery.

Step-26: Click on the ‘Connect source’ button:

Step-29: Click on the name of the Google account which is associated with both your Google Ads account and the BigQuery project:

Step-31: Click on the name of the Google account which is associated with both your Google Ads account and the BigQuery project:

Step-32: Click on the ‘Allow’ button:

Step-33: Click on the ‘Continue’ button:

You should now see a screen like the one below:

Step-34: Select the Google Ads account (from which you to send data to BigQuery) from the ‘Accounts’ drop-down menu:

Step-35: Click on the ‘Submit’ button:

You should now see the ‘Source Connected‘ message just below ‘Third party connection‘:

Step-36: Click on the ‘Save’ button to save the transfer and also start the initial data transfer:

You should now see a screen like the one below:

Step-37: Wait for the data transfer to complete.

When the data transfer is complete you see the message ‘The transfer run has completed successfully’:

Step-38: Click on the ‘SQL workspace’ link from the left-hand side navigation:

Step-39: Navigate to the data set named ‘Google_Ads_Dataset’ (which we created earlier).

This data set list all the data tables automatically created by Supermetrics:

Step-40: Click on the data tables one by one to see what data it contains.

Step-41: Query a particular set of data by clicking on the ‘Query Table’ button:

Step-42: Enter your SQL query and query the Google Ads data you need:
