How to send data from Facebook ads to BigQuery

Follow the steps below to send data from Facebook ads to BigQuery:

Step-1: Navigate to your BigQuery account: https://console.cloud.google.com/bigquery

Step-2: At the top of your screen click on the drop-down menu:

Step-3: Click on the ‘New Project’ button:

We are going to use this new project for collecting and querying Facebook Ads data in BigQuery.

Step-4: Name your new project.

Step-5: Click on the ‘Create’ button:

Step-6: Click on the ‘Select project’ link on the top right-hand side of your screen:

You are now in the ‘Facebook Ads’ project.

You will know that you are in the right project because the project name will appear at the top of your screen:

Step-7: Click on the Facebook Ads project ID:

Step-8: Click on ‘Create dataset’ button:

Step-9: Name your dataset (say ‘Facebook_Ads_Dataset’) and then click on the ‘Create Dataset’ button:

You now need to use a third-party solution (connector) for sending Google Ads Data to BigQuery. 

You can either search for such third-party solutions online or use the one that I use which is ‘Supermetrics for BigQuery‘. They provide a free 14 days trial of their solution. No credit card required.

Step-10: Navigate to ‘Supermetrics for BigQuery‘ page.

Step-11: Click on the ‘Start a free trial’ button:

Step-12: Fill out the form and then click on the ‘Send’ button:

You should now be redirected to the page like the one below in your Google Cloud Platform account:

Step-13: Click on the ‘Select a project’ drop-down menu:

Step-14: Click on ‘Facebook Ads’ project:

Step-15: Type ‘supermetrics facebook ads’ in the search box:

Step-16: Press the ‘Enter’ key and then click on ‘Facebook Ads by Supermetrics’ connector:

Step-17: Click on the ‘Enroll’ button:

You should now see the ‘Data Source enrolled‘ status:

Step-18: Click on the ‘Configure transfer’ button:

You should now see a screen like the one below which is about creating Facebook Ads data transfer:

Step-19: Keep the data source (‘Facebook Ads by Supermetrics’) intact and move on to the next step:

Step-20: Type a meaningful name for the ‘Transfer config name’ field:

Step-21: Change the scheduling options (which specify when the transfer will run) to ‘Start at set time’:

Step-22: Keep the ‘Repeats’ setting to ‘Daily’ to have new data added once a day and move on to the next step:

Step-23: Edit the ‘Start date and run time’ setting to your preferred choice:

Step-24: Select the dataset you created earlier for Facebook Ads from the drop-down menu:

We are going to use this dataset for storing Facebooks ads data in BigQuery.

Step-25: Click on the ‘Connect source’ button:

Step-26: Click on the ‘Accept Agreement’ button:

Step-27: Click on ‘Sign in with Google’ button:

Step-28: Click on the name of the Google account which is associated with your BigQuery project:

Step-29: Click on the ‘Continue with Facebook’ button:

Step-30: Click on the ‘Continue as <your name>’ button:

Step-31: Select the Facebook fan page(s) you want to use with Supermetrics:

Step-32: Click on the ‘Next’ button:

Step-33: Click on the ‘Done’ button:

Step-34: Click on the ‘OK’ button:

Step-35: Click on the ‘Continue’ button:

You should now see a screen like the one below:

Step-36: Select the Facebook Ads account (from which you to send data to BigQuery) from the ‘Accounts’ drop-down menu:

Step-37: Change the default general settings if you like and/or then click on the ‘Submit’ button:

You should now see the ‘Source Connected‘ message just below ‘Third party connection‘:

Step-38: Click on the ‘Save’ button to save the transfer and also start the initial data transfer:

You should now see a screen like the one below:

When the data transfer starts, you are going to see a message like the one below:

Step-39: Wait for the data transfer to complete.

When the data transfer is complete, you see the message ‘The transfer run has completed successfully’:

Step-40: Click on the ‘SQL workspace’ link from the left-hand side navigation:

Step-41: Navigate to the dataset named ‘Facebook_Ads_Dataset(which we created earlier).

This dataset list all the data tables automatically created by supermetrics:

Step-42: Click on the data tables one by one to see what data they contain.

Step-43: Query a particular set of data by clicking on the ‘Query Table’ button:

Step-44: Enter your SQL query and query the Facebook ads data you need:
