How to Install Google Tag Manager on your website
In order to install Google Tag Manager (GTM) on your website, follow the steps below:
Step-1: Create a new Google account (if you don’t already have one). You would need a Google account in order to create a GTM account.
Step-2: Navigate to this web page: https://tagmanager.google.com/ and then log in using your Google Account login (username and password).
Step-3: Click on the ‘create account’ button on the home page:
Step-4: Name your new GTM account after your company name (in our case ‘ABC Inc’), select your country from the drop-down list and then click on the checkbox ‘Share data anonymously with Google and others‘ (to enable benchmarking):
Step-5: Enter the name of your container after your website name and then select ‘Web’ (provided you want to install GTM on a website):
Step-6: Click on the ‘Create’ button.
Step-7: Read the Google Tag Manager Terms of Service Agreement:
Step-8: Scroll down to the very bottom of the service agreement and then click on the checkbox ‘I also accept the Data Processing Terms as required by GDPR.’
Step-9: Click on the ‘Yes’ button at top right-hand side of your screen:
Once you clicked on the ‘Yes’ button, you would see the code for installing Google Tag Manager:
Step-10: Copy the code (highlighted below) and then paste it as high as possible in the <head> section of every page of your website
Step-11: Copy the code (highlighted below) and then paste it immediately after the opening <body> tag of every page of your website:
Step-12: Click on the ‘OK’ button.
Once you clicked on the ‘ok’ button, you will see the GTM user interface:
Congratulations.
You have now created your Google Tag Manager account and installed GTM on your website.
